FIREFOX

The easiest method to alter your user agent using Firefox is to use the User Agent Switcher. Once installed, there will be a new sub-menu under the "Tools" section. You can use this to spoof your user agent to browsers such as IE, Opera, or your own user agent completely:

If you don't wish to select another browser as your user agent, you can come up with your own user
agent to use by going to Options >> Options...:

Select this new user agent if you wish, and you've now got your very own (hopefully unique) user agent :-)

OPERA

This method only works in Opera 9. Type "about:config" into Opera's address bar. The resulting screen is the background settings section of Opera. Type "Spoof UserAgent ID" into the search text area to locate the correct setting:

There are only five values (hence user agents) you can enter:
  1. Opera (this is the default user agent string used by Opera)
  2. Mozilla
  3. Internet Explorer
  4. Mozilla, without mentioning Opera (in other words, without saying that this is actually Opera but being spoofed as Mozilla)
  5. Internet Explorer, without mentioning Opera (in other words, without saying that this is actually Opera but being spoofed as IE)
Hence, if you want to be spoofed as Internet Explorer, enter the value "5" into the text box, and then press "Save". You will need to restart Opera for this change to take effect - hence exit and then re-open Opera.

INTERNET EXPLORER

You'll need to delve into Window's registry editor in order to change the user agent in Internet Explorer. This only works for Windows XP.
Open the registry (by going to Start >> Run >> "regedit") and browse to find the following section/folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent
Create a new string value called "Version". To create this, right click in the main body of the registry editor, go to "New" and then "String Value".
Once you've created this string, change "Version" to whatever you like and you'll have spoofed part of the user agent. Please note that the user agent will still have a set format of:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; [Version]; Windows NT 6.0) To change the "Mozilla/4.0" bit, modify the value of "{Default)" to whatever you like.
